Dating back over five million years, Nerja Caves are a breathtaking natural wonder. Situated 200 meters above sea level, they cover an area of 140.000 m² and are known as the Natural Cathedral of Costa Del Sol.
Here you can find the world's largest column that was formed by the merging of a stalactite and stalagmite (32m in height and 13x7m at its base). It’s been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records since 1989.
Nerja caves also house the oldest paintings in the world. The six paintings found in the caves are thought to be created by Neanderthal man. They have been dated to approximately 43,000 years ago.
